Brother & Bones
Genuine talent and passion are qualities that resonate through the music of artists that stand out. And that’s exactly what Brother & Bones do.
I saw them back in November of last year, in the depths of Devon as they were about to set off on their tour with Ben Howard. They shook the stage with a fantastic momentum that seemed to build throughout the show. Culminating in an audience captivated by the confident lead vocals and a band that really work together. Exactly what I love about live music.
I have a few favourite tracks of theirs but ‘Back to the Shore’ is excellent. It is racy and maintains the feel of building momentum and a heightened sense of anticipation that their live show grabbed me with. Gusty, with a depth of sound that urges you to tap your feet. The song layers instruments in a carefully controlled chaos of sliding guitars and a thumping beat.
Acoustically, they have even more to offer and their stripped back version of ‘Man in Need’ demonstrates their soulful diversity. The piano is straight out of a New Orleans Jazz cafe and Rich Thomas’ vocals show both the power and fragility in his voice. Just gorgeous. They are back on an extensive tour at the moment so check out their website for dates.
