Three’s a charm.
Back to basics with this one. Three things I like, three things to post. Really that simple.
Everything is not always enough… well usually it is, and it still is in this case. Everything Everything first came to my attention through David’s Lyre’s remix of their song ‘Schoolin’. I then saw their name on the line up for Underage festival this year and finally they popped up as hosting the Underage facebook page today at 1pm. So naturally
it got me to give ’em another google and out popped their new single ‘MY KZ, YR BF’. I gave it a listen and realised I had heard it before. That then took bloody ages to work out where I had heard it. Found out it was part of the BBC Longlist for 2010. So I guess congratulations is in order for the BBC for their foresight. The song itself is similar to Schoolin’ with the leads voice jumping through the scales for all his worth. This lovely uplifting synthy diamond is a complete riot. I am so definitely checking out these guys on Sunday.
Here is a download for Everything Everything’s new single
Here you can get the excellent remix of MY KZ, YR BF by producer/DJ/hero ‘Grum’:
And the last piece of Everything Everything goodness is the remix of Schoolin’ by David’s Lyre (who i have already mentioned here)
Stornoway are a band that’ve been hangin’ around for a while, chucking songs out just when you’ve started to lean away from them. Then they released their album back out in May named ‘Beachcomber’s Windowsill’. The album was great,
in all honesty I expected a bit more given the wealth of material they had but there was no denying these guys had talent. Then 2 weeks ago at the iTunes festival they went and blew everyone away with a spectacular live set. Few genres suit an unplugged ethos more than folk as Stornoway so rightly showed. The lyricism and cohesive merging of sound is both refreshing and just brilliant. There is emotion aplenty in the vocals of Brian Briggs show both their love for music as well as giving songs such depth regardless of poetical content.
Here is one of the 6 songs in the set they blessed us with. And what’s more, it’s their single!
Also here is a video of Zorbing on Later With Jools Holland:
Lastly is a live session from everybody’s favourite band Local Natives. The live session was at Day Trotter Studio’s and can be downloaded HERE.
It’s another sterling performance from Local Natives who’s moody, heart string tugging tracks suit the stripped back nature of live recordings down to the ground. For myself this has got to be one of my favourite live recordings ever (i’m talking up there with Nirvana unplugged). Truly beautiful.
As a side note, it also seems that this isn’t on Hypem as of yet. So come on guys, put me on!
