These Furrows

Another introducing post, but this time the band are good. Obviously, that’s not true, all bands we try to put up on here are great. At least that’s the intention anyway…

These Furrows make me think of a few things, 1 being The Pixies, 2 being what exactly is a furrow? (a long narrow trench apparently), and 3 bring what exactly is it about these trenches that’s so captivating? The Pixies reference is definitely the most key, they’ve got that Hard/soft, thing going on that got punk kids ‘waaaayy back in the day’ going mental. My dad liked The Pixies apparently :/, I once even saw him  wear a Pixies T-shirt, till me mam said it was ‘offensive’. Mehh.

People of that (stone age) generation may well appreciate what These Furrows have got going, as well as everybody else I hasten to add, not trying to alienate anyone here! It’s not to say that These Furrows are primarily a punk band, far from it. They’ve just adopted that dynamic. The influences apparent from the music are diverse, at least within the indie/alternative spectrum anyhow. The ‘ding ding’ twang of mathrock super giants The Foals or more true to the genre Cast of Cheers can be heard in ‘Anybodies’ through to the punk loving and minimalist ‘twee’ of ‘Without Manner’ that bring Hey Man, Check My Band’s beloved Johnny Foreigner to mind. All of this blended with a healthy mix of sing song choruses and hard as nails British grit makes for a very interesting listen, followed by re-listen and re-re-listen, et cetera…

Have a listen to their new single, you probably won’t regret it (we hope).
